Meet the Artist
George Hunter
George Hunter, originally from Airdrie and now based in Glasgow, is a self-taught contemporary artist whose bold, colour-driven style bridges realism and expression. Deeply influenced by masters such as Caravaggio, Rembrandt, Da Vinci, and Michelangelo, George's work balances light, shadow, and intensity with a uniquely modern edge.
In 2023, George was a finalist in the Scottish Fine Arts Awards, His work has been commissioned by multiple charities including Spinal Injuries Scotland, SIMBA, and SCIAF.
Notable highlights include a portrait of Sir Alex Ferguson, signed and auctioned for over £500, a Marilyn Monroe piece for SIMBA which raised over £350, and commissions of Tom Rogic and Amy Winehouse, with two of George's Amy Winehouse works now in her mother's personal collection.
His private commissions range from £175-£1000 with collectors drawn to the way his paintings look photographic at a distance yet reveal expressive painterly detail up close.
George's latest project "Urban Echoes: Glasgow" explores urban decay landscapes of his home city - uncovering the hidden soul and beauty of forgotten spaces.
